Trip Of The Year: Royal Wedding 2011

My big trip this year is to London for the royal wedding of HRH Prince William to Kate Middleton. My plans are now finalised and I leave in two days time. I'm flying to Europe with Thai Airways from Melbourne in business class, with connections to the UK on Lufthansa.  I'll be visiting Edinburgh and London in the UK and Berlin in Germany. Stay tuned for my upcoming reports from this trip with a ROYAL theme!

On a recent trip to the USA and Canada I was looking for a good deal for a flight from Vancouver to Las Vegas. United.com happened to spit out a routing which appealed to the aviation geek in me! Vancouver-Seattle-San Francisco-Las Vegas. With rides on Dash 8-300, Bombardier CRJ700 and Airbus A320-200. I snapped it up in an instant! I would get to add both a new carrier and TWO new types to my log.  Airline:  Air Canada Flight:  AC8099 Vancouver - Seattle Aircraft:  DeHavilland Dash 8 - 300 C-GETA (delivered in 1989, 22 years young) Seat: 8A (Economy Class) Scheduled Departure:  17.50 Actual Departure:  18.08 Scheduled Arrival:  18.39 Actual Arrival:  18.48 (9 mins late) I took the hotel shuttle from the Hilton Vancouver Airport (Richmond) and arrived almost 2 hours before departure time. A quick check of the departures board reveals 2 direct flights to Las Vegas leaving within 10 minutes of my flight to Seattle...

The Jetstar Boeing 787

Jetstar are slowly changing the long haul fleet over from the Airbus A330-200 to the Boeing 787-8 and so far they have 4 aircraft in service. I recently took a ride on VH-VKE which was just 2 weeks old at the time. I rode on it between Melbourne and Sydney, which was a domestic tag for a flight that originated in Phuket. As such it departs from the international terminal but they do sell tickets for domestic passengers too. VH-VKE at the gate

FLIGHT EY131 AIRLINE Etihad Airways ROUTE Abu Dhabi to Washington Dulles GATE DEPARTURE 10.55AM GATE ARRIVAL 5.25 PM FLIGHT TIME 14 hours 30 min AIRCRAFT Boeing 787-9 (A6-BLA) There has been a lot of hype from Etihad about their new Business Studio seat so earlier in the year I decided I had to try it! I was heading to New York but since the business studios only feature on the A380 and B787-9 Dreamliner, I decided to fly via Washington. Washington is the first long haul destination Etihad served with B787 equipment and is the only USA destination not served with Etihad B777's currently.
