Singapore Airlines A380 - Business Class SQ217 Singapore to Melbourne

Image
Here is a trip report on a recent flight I had with Singapore Airlines from Singapore to Melbourne in business class. FLIGHT: SQ217 ROUTE: Singapore to Melbourne CLASS: Business Class SEAT: 91F AIRCRAFT: A380-800 9V-SKQ (5 years old) DEPART: 10.45AM ARRIVE: 9.10PM After a visit to the T3 Silverkris lounge I headed to gate B5  for the departure. I arrived at 10am with boarding not yet started and found 9V-SKQ at the gate. This was one of the newer A380's, only 5 years old. It has the upper deck configured exclusively with business class, 86 flat beds in total! Those that have flown the 2006 SQ business class seat know that the bulkheads are generally preferable as they have more leg space since there is no seat in front. I had chosen the centre bulkhead in the rear cabin, seat 91F. When boarding was called I noticed very few other passengers joining me on the upper deck jetway. 9V-SKQ at the gate

Singapore Airlines SQ323 : Amsterdam to Singapore on the B777-300ER Business Class

Image
First an apology.... this report is well overdue. I completed this flight in November last year. This is Singapore Airlines flight SQ323 from Amsterdam to Singapore. Currently a B777-300ER route but it will soon feature the brand new Airbus A350 instead. When that change is completed then Amsterdam will lose First Class service from SQ. This flight departs Amsterdam daily at 10.25am, arriving in Singapore at 5.55am the following day. On my flight the aircraft operating the service was 9V-SWA, 9 years old at the time of the flight. I believe it was the first -300ER in the Singapore Airlines fleet. It's still flying in the same interior configuration now as it was when it was delivered. Despite the age of these seats, they are still market leaders in terms of their size! 9V-SWA waiting at the gate at AMS

Singapore Airlines New First Class on the Boeing 777-300ER : SQ2 Singapore to Hong Kong

Image
After a pleasant stay in The Private Room at Changi, I headed to the gate for SQ2 to San Francisco via Hong Kong. I was taking only the first leg today, but since this is a long haul flight the latest generation 2013 product is offered on board. Today's flight was operated by Boeing 777-300 ER 9V-SWW, delivered to Singapore Airlines in March 2014 which made her 20 months old at the time of this flight. 9V-SWW at the gate

Singapore Airlines : The Private Room at Changi

Image
After arriving from Melbourne  on Singapore Airlines in First Class, I had a 2 and a half hour transit at Changi Airport before flying onwards to Hong Kong. Singapore Airlines First Class and Suites passengers have access to the exclusive 'The Private Room'. Upon arrival at the SilverKris lounge and when presenting a First boarding pass you will be personally escorted through the business and first class lounge (available for those flying Star Alliance first class) and into the sanctuary of the Private Room. Singapore Airlines First Class on the Boeing 777-300 : SQ238 Melbourne to Singapore

FLIGHT SQ238 AIRLINE Singapore Airlines ROUTE Melbourne to Singapore GATE DEPARTURE 11.30 (Scheduled) / 11.39 (Actual) GATE ARRIVAL 16.10 (Scheduled) / 16.10 (Actual) FLYING TIME 7 hrs 11 minutes airborne AIRCRAFT Boeing 777-300 9V-SYI (Age 11 years) It's been quite a while since I flew with Singapore Airlines so it was quite exciting to be flying with them again, especially in First Class. I took this flight as part of a series of flights to get to London from Melbourne on a trip I took recently. This first sector is the late morning service out of Melbourne, SQ238, operated by the older Boeing 777-300's. It is one of 4 daily flights that Singapore Airlines operate to Melbourne and the aircraft today was 9V-SYI, an 11 year old bird and one of 7 of it's type in the SQ fleet. These aircraft have 8 first class seats which are almost the same as those installed on the B777...

Singapore Airlines Suites SQ346 - Singapore to Zurich

Image
It's already over 5 years since Singapore Airlines introduced the Airbus A380 back in 2007, but its taken this long for me to finally sample the premium cabins and write about it. Previously I've flown only in economy on the Singapore whalejet so I was very excited when the time finally came to try the suites. My journey had started in Myanmar and I'd flown in to Changi airport with about 7 hours to spare before the 1am departure to Zurich. I decided to hit The Private Room, Singapore Airlines exclusive lounge for first class passengers. As you enter the Silverkris lounge area in terminal 3 and present your Suites boarding pass you will be personally escorted past the business class and first class lounges and into the Private Room. I was warmly welcomed and shown to the shower facilities after I requested directions. Shower Room

Singapore Airlines Business Class : SQ825 Shanghai to Singapore

Image
In recent years Singapore Airlines has introduced a regional business class pod style angled lie flat seat. It debuted on the airlines new fleet of Airbus A330-300 aircraft and since then many Boeing 777-200 aircraft have been refitted with the new seat. They are used on the longer regional routes (4-6 hours) out of Singapore to places like China, Korea and India. I recently  had the opportunity to try the product out of Shanghai on a red eye flight to Singapore.  So, after arriving from Seoul I cleared immigration as a transit without visa passenger and headed back upstairs to the check-in hall for flight SQ825 to Singapore. Singapore A380 Suites Video Review

Image
I recently had the good fortune to travel on an A380 with Singapore Airlines in Suites (First) class from Singapore to Zurich. I absolutely loved it and have just uploaded a video at my youtube channel which shows the suite and meal services along with takeoff and landing, even a sneak peak of the private room. I will follow this up with a written review but in the mean time please check it out:

Singapore Airlines A380 Video

I have uploaded a video to youtube today of a recent flight on the Singapore Airlines A380 from Melbourne to Singapore. I will be following up with a trip report on my blog soon! I have reviewed SQ Economy on this sector a few times now but this time is the first time with the A380. Check back soon for the A380 trip report... in the meantime, here is the video:

Singapore to Bangkok – in video!

Image
After a pleasant hour and a bit in the SATS Lounge terminal 2 sipping vodka and orange juice, it was time to head for Bangkok. SQ978 is the last Singapore Airlines flight of the day to Bangkok, now that they have cancelled the Singapore-Bangkok-Tokyo run (so sad!). Currently, Singapore Airlines operate only 4 services a day, and all Boeing 777-200’s, on the Bangkok run. This is a huge reduction from the previous schedule which included at least 6 flights a day, some of which were 777-300’s, and in the past Boeing 747’s also.  There also used to be First Class, now there is only Business and Economy, so SQ service to Bangkok is just a shadow of its former self. I hope to see increased frequencies return to Bangkok in the future, it should happen as long as the country can remain reasonably stable (with no airport closures!). We departed the gate about 15 minutes late with a load of I would guess of about 75% in economy, just after a storm cell passed over the airport. The...

Melbourne to Singapore - SQ238

Image
Today left Melbourne bound for Bangkok, via Singapore. Flight was chock-a-block in economy, and check in was very busy... I used the internet check in queue which was shorter than the business/first class queues. I was hoping for that elusive upgrade,  but alas, it was not going to happen today. Collected my boarding passes for 60H and 60K (preselected online), the 2nd last row, with a two-some on the right hand side. Nice when travelling as a pair in the 777. There is always that tiny tiny hope when your checking in for an economy flight that you will be upgraded, but with those hopes dashed, I thought I will try to make the most of it and have some sparkling wine and a bacon and egg muffin, and some nice cakes,  in the Air New Zealand lounge. I was welcomed into the ANZ lounge by the staff, no mention made that I SHOULD be in the Singapore lounge, I was told I was welcome in either, along with my guest. What a wise move, as the ANZ flight to Auckland was ...

Singapore SQ238 - Melbourne to Singapore - Video Review

Took a flight recently on Singapore SQ238 from Melbourne to Singapore, here is a video I took of this flight as a passenger. It shows the inflight meal, and views out the window during departure, en route over Australia and landing in Singapore. This flight was back in July 2009, and is just a starting point to the blog which will follow my travels from now onwards!
