Qantas First Class Lounge - Melbourne (A Culinary Paradise)

On a recent adventure I had the pleasure of spending some time in the Qantas First lounge at Melbourne along with a friend of mine. The lounge is quite a bit smaller than the one in Sydney but with that you get a much more personal service with everything being taken care of from the moment I arrived.

The friendly waitress tended to my friend and I immediately upon being seated, taking drink orders and asking whether we would be having lunch today. We ordered Taittinger champagne and advised we would be eating a little later. The lounge area was very bright with a lot of sunshine flowing through the windows and we were even asked if we would prefer the blinds closed, which I didn't.

 The menu was the winter menu with some changes compared to Sydney including an additional champagne choice: the Veuve A. Devauc blanc de noir. I sampled all 4 options! After a couple of pre-drinks we moved over to the Rockpool operated restaurant and ordered. Food was delivered promptly and went as follows:

Starter is a Roast butternut pumpkin soup with coconut cream and coriander

Blackmore wagyu bresaola with goats curd, braised leeks and truffled potatos


 Sides include fries, rocket with parmesan salad, salt and pepper squid with green chilli sauce.

Crisp pork belly with spicy eggplant, coriander and shallot

I have to say, I thoroughly enjoyed the entire meal!! However, one has to mention a couple of highlights. For me those were the squid which was absolutely tender with a delicious accompanying sauce, and the pavlova in a glass. This pavlova was absolute heaven, just looking at the picture now makes me wish I was back there eating it.

Overall the lounge experience was fantastic, I did not use the spa on this visit however it was a quiet day and I doubt getting an appointment would have been all that difficult. The Melbourne lounge in my opinion is a better experience than Sydney with better food and superior service. Well done to the staff!

Turkish Airlines has been rapidly expanding in recent years and now has a huge worldwide route network that rivals that of the big middle eastern carriers. I had heard good things about the airline so I decided to give them a go and visit Istanbul for the first time. The flight I am reviewing today is TK65, the daytime service from Bangkok to Istanbul. When I booked it was scheduled to be on an Airbus A330-300 with the latest business class product. Unfortunately when I went on Flightradar24 the night before the flight to see which aircraft had left Istanbul to operate the service I found out my flight had been swapped to the smaller A330-200.  I suppose the fact that there was a military coup with strict curfews in place in Bangkok at the time meant that the flight would be lightly loaded but unfortunately it meant I would be stuck in the older and much less exciting angled lie flats for the 10 hour journey. A Ride On A 'Classic' - The Double Bogey A320 With Air India

Here's a look at another flight I took on my trip around India from November 2016. This flight was from the beautiful town of Udaipur to the metropolis of Mumbai. I booked it with Air India since their price was hard to beat and the timing suited me too. Originally this was scheduled to be flown with a fairly new A319 but a couple of weeks before departure the timing was changed slightly and the equipment swapped to an A320. Knowing that it was going to be an A320 I was aware there was a chance I might fly on a very rare beast, the double bogey model A320. I believe only 31 of these were ever produced and there is less than 20 still in operation. They were ordered new by Indian Airlines to operate on the rather poor airstrips that were around India in the late 80s and early 90s and were eventually inherited by Air India.
